New Jersey has legalized plug-in balcony solar systems of up to 1,200 watts, according to The Next Web. The newly signed law bars municipalities from requiring licensing or approvals for the portable panels and prevents landlords from blocking installation. It takes effect in six months. Renters must notify landlords 14 days in advance, while landlords may still restrict a system's placement and size. The panels use an inverter designed to stop feeding electricity to the grid during an outage.
