# AWS adds Oracle upgrade prechecks and database reconnection event

_Published Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 8:08 PM EDT · Infrastructure, Products · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS has added on-demand upgrade prechecks and a patching notification to Amazon RDS for Oracle, giving operators ways to find upgrade blockers earlier and reconnect applications before all maintenance finishes.

Previously, checks ran only during an upgrade. The new read-only procedure checks for problems such as insufficient storage and invalid objects, collecting issues in one log without affecting workloads. Operators must fix detected problems before proceeding.

The new RDS-EVENT-0596 notification signals when a database accepts connections during a minor version upgrade or operating system update. Customers can automate reconnection through RDS notifications or Amazon EventBridge. Both capabilities are available wherever RDS for Oracle operates in AWS commercial and GovCloud US Regions.
