CISA, the FBI and other US agencies warned Thursday that hackers are compromising internet-connected refrigeration and cold-chain monitoring systems serving critical infrastructure. Attacks across the United Kingdom and Europe have raised freezer temperatures, spoiled food and destroyed produce in at least a dozen countries, TechCrunch reported.

A French blood bank stopped an attack before it compromised blood supplies, while the Defense Department is investigating hacks of military freezers. Agencies urged operators to disconnect remote controls from the internet, strengthen passwords, patch systems and retire unsupported equipment. Some affected refrigeration units were made by Danfoss, which had stopped providing security updates. The US has not formally attributed the attacks.
