A US federal judge certified a class action accusing Apple of charging inflated fees to card issuers for Apple Pay transactions. The decision allows US issuers that paid those fees to pursue their antitrust claims as a group. The plaintiffs' lawyers say Apple charges issuers 0.15% on credit card transactions and 0.5 cents on debit card transactions made through Apple Pay.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple restricts rival wallets' access to the technology needed for contactless payments on iPhones. It seeks reimbursement and an injunction against the challenged policies. Certification allows the collective case to proceed; it does not decide whether Apple violated antitrust law.
