# AWS adds OAuth access to Glue's Iceberg catalog

_Published Monday, October 26, 2026 at 8:51 PM EDT · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says Glue Data Catalog now accepts OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens for its Apache Iceberg REST Catalog APIs, giving query engines and external partners another way to authenticate alongside AWS Signature Version 4.

Partners can exchange an OpenID Connect identity token for a short-lived token scoped to Glue, allowing access to Iceberg tables without distributing AWS credentials. Apache Spark, Trino and Apache Flink support the standard authentication mechanism natively.

The capability is available in all AWS Regions where Glue and Lake Formation are available. Access remains subject to AWS IAM and Lake Formation permissions.
