# Ramp finds AI spending growth slowed despite rising usage

AI token spending grew 1.5% across August and September despite rising usage volumes, according to a new Ramp report described by TechCrunch. July spending had grown 42% from the previous month.

Ramp economist Ara Kharazian attributes the slowdown to price competition, enterprise discounts and customers routing work to cheaper models or imposing budgets. Spending among the highest-spending 1% of firms slipped below summer peaks, outweighing growth among median firms and the top 10%.

The later figures showed a recovery: token spending rose 8.9% from September 23 to October 23. Kharazian says cheaper workloads benefit customers while complicating revenue growth for model providers.
