# Amazon GameLift lets container servers use idle CPU during demand spikes

_Published Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 8:10 PM EDT · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says Amazon GameLift Servers now allows container fleets to use idle instance CPU during demand spikes. Previously, one fixed CPU value determined both how densely containers could be packed and their hard runtime limit.

Developers can now size container packing around typical CPU needs while allowing server processes to draw on idle CPU for peaks such as physics calculations or collision detection. The opt-in feature is configured per container group definition and carries no additional charge under standard container fleet pricing. It is available wherever container fleets are supported, excluding China Regions.
