Cloudflare will support the Deno runtime for another year before ending its development, Simon Willison reported as Cloudflare acquires Deno. Monthly releases during that period will contain bug fixes and security updates. The runtime will remain open source, allowing others to continue development.

The acquisition aims to build on celld, Deno's implementation of the Cloudflare Durable Objects pattern, to make self-hosting workerd a supported way to run applications using the Workers programming model. Deno creator Ryan Dahl said ending runtime development was a joint decision he supports.
