Mistral released an API preview of Mistral Large 4 on October 6, Simon Willison reported. The model has 1 trillion parameters, with 49 billion active parameters, and was trained on Mistral's own cluster of 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs.

The API offers two reasoning settings, "none" and "high." Mistral promises to release the model's open weights at the end of this month; access currently comes through the API preview.
