Financial regulators in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan are moving to assess risks tied to Anthropic PBC's new Mythos AI model, which the company has said is powerful enough to enable sophisticated cyberattacks.

The Reserve Bank of Australia said in a statement that it is "engaging with peer regulators, government and regulated entities" and will continue to assess the implications of the technology to ensure the "ongoing safety and resilience of the financial system." The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is also monitoring the model, according to separate statements.

In Japan, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama is scheduled to meet the country's biggest banks on Friday to discuss the model. The meeting is expected to include executives from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, and Mizuho Financial Group. Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda and Japan Exchange Group CEO Hiromi Yamaji are also likely to attend.
