Moonshot has Alibaba deal for about 20,000 Nvidia chips, Bloomberg says

Chinese AI firm Moonshot has a computing agreement with Alibaba Group for the use of about 20,000 Nvidia chips, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter, according to Reuters. Alibaba, one of Moonshot's largest investors, expects portfolio companies to use its cloud, the report said, and the Nvidia cluster accounts for a key portion of computing power behind Moonshot's Kimi models. The roughly 20,000 chips are from Nvidia's earlier Hopper generation, Bloomberg said, while Moonshot can access newer Blackwell processors through Southeast Asia and is seeking more chips for its next model. Moonshot earlier unveiled Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter model it called the world's largest open-weight AI system with performance approaching Anthropic's frontier Fable model. An Alibaba spokesperson told Reuters the alleged supply of H200 chips to Moonshot from Alibaba was completely groundless. Reuters said it could not independently confirm the Bloomberg report. Moonshot could not be reached outside business hours, and the White House, U.S. Commerce Department and Nvidia did not immediately respond. The report follows U.S. scrutiny of Moonshot, including White House tech adviser Michael Kratsios saying the government had information that Moonshot distilled Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 to develop Kimi K3.
