The European Commission confirmed it has sent information requests to more than 30 AI companies worldwide, a preliminary step that could lead to formal AI Act investigations.

The requests focus mainly on safety and copyright compliance, according to a Commission spokesman. The move coincided with a US-hosted G20 meeting where US officials argued against AI-specific regulation and promoted technology-neutral rules. The AI Act prohibits some uses deemed unacceptable risk and imposes transparency standards on other AI services; its transparency rules took effect in August.
