Semtech Partners with Digital Barriers to Launch AI-Powered Video Compression

Semtech Corporation announced a partnership with Digital Barriers to launch Semtech Video Compression, a fully integrated device to cloud cellular video solution for critical video surveillance and analytics. The offering combines Digital Barriers EdgeVis AI powered video compression with Semtech AirLink XR60 5G router and the company multi carrier global Smart Connectivity services. It supports live video transmission for remote security surveillance, traffic monitoring and critical infrastructure monitoring in challenging environments. The solution reduces bandwidth by up to 90 percent, from 4 to 6 megabits per second to 300 to 500 kilobits per second, while maintaining video quality for analytics and evidentiary purposes. It integrates the EdgeVis Encoder at the edge, the ruggedized XR60 router with dual SIM failover and MIL STD 810H certification, a multi IMSI SIM with access to more than 600 networks, and the AirVantage platform for unified management. Clive Sawkins, chief executive officer at Digital Barriers, said the EdgeVis technology applies advanced AI algorithms to achieve the bandwidth reduction while preserving critical visual details. Rupa Datta, vice president of connected services at Semtech, said the integration enables video streaming applications that were not economically viable before and provides cost predictability along with network reliability. A serving officer at North Yorkshire Police, a customer of Digital Barriers for over 12 years, said the combination simplifies deployment and supports reliable HD video streaming over cellular networks with sufficient quality for backend evidentiary storage. Semtech Video Compression is now available in North America and EMEA across all Smart Connectivity tiers.
