Photonic Inc. and TELUS completed a demonstration of quantum teleportation over TELUS commercial fibre network. Photonic transferred quantum information over 30 km of TELUS PureFibre installed commercial fibre. The company used its Entanglement First architecture, which combines silicon-based qubits and native telecom band photonic connectivity, to teleport the information into a matter-based quantum processor.

The processor can retain, store and use the information. Prior demonstrations over commercial fibre used only photonic qubits that could be measured but not processed further. This transfer to a remote processing node supports long-distance quantum networks and commercial-scale quantum computers.

Paul Terry, Photonic chief executive officer, said the demonstration shows the value of industry leaders working together to accelerate Canada's leadership in quantum computing and networking. Nazim Benhadid, TELUS chief technology officer, said the results demonstrate the quantum potential of the PureFibre network. Terry Doyle, managing partner at TELUS Global Ventures, said the outcome reinforces the potential to redefine secure telecommunications infrastructure.

The demonstration is the first under an expanded collaboration agreement that builds on a 2024 partnership. The agreement covers projects at the intersection of Photonic distributed quantum computing and quantum networking technologies and TELUS PureFibre network experience.
