Anthropic says some planned data centers depend on electricity from on-site natural gas turbines, exposing its compute expansion to fuel and pipeline constraints, The Verge reported from the company's Monday securities filing. Without secure gas supplies and pipelines, Anthropic says it could delay or abandon planned projects.

The company expects competition from hyperscalers and cloud providers to raise gas prices. It also warns that regulators could impose conditions or standby charges if its power arrangements affect other utility customers, increasing the cost of expanding its computing infrastructure.
