# Nintendo raises Switch 2 price to $500, forecasts lower sales amid memory costs and tariffs

Nintendo is raising the United States price of its Switch 2 console by $50 to $500, citing higher memory component costs and U.S. tariffs. The increase is smaller than the $150 Sony has added to its PlayStation 5 over the past year, but Nintendo acknowledged that its younger, more price-sensitive audience means the hike could still dampen demand.

Nintendo shipped 2.49 million Switch 2 units in its most recent quarter, bringing total sales for the fiscal year to 19.86 million consoles in the three quarters since launch. For the coming fiscal year, however, the company is forecasting significantly lower hardware sales of 16.5 million units. It attributed the cautious outlook in part to extra costs of about 100 billion yen tied to rising component prices and tariff measures.

Software sales rose this year to 185.62 million units across Switch and Switch 2, up from 155.41 million in the prior year. Standout titles included Mario Kart World at 14.7 million units, Pokemon Legends: Z-A at 8.5 million, and Donkey Kong Bananza at 4.5 million. Nintendo also noted that the Super Mario Galaxy movie has grossed more than $800 million in its first four weeks.

Overall revenue for the fiscal year surged 98.6 percent to 2.3 trillion yen, or roughly $14.7 billion, compared to 1.16 trillion yen, or $7.4 billion, the year before. Nintendo expects revenue to fall nearly 11.4 percent in the coming year but is forecasting a slight rise in operating profit on stronger software sales.
