Google opens cloud command tools to AI agents in public preview

Google Cloud has made a remote server for its command-line tools available in public preview, allowing AI agents to run cloud management and BigQuery commands without installing those tools locally. The server exposes operations from the gcloud and bq tools through the Model Context Protocol, a standard way for agents to call external tools. Commands run in a network-isolated Google Cloud environment under the authenticated caller's permissions and organization policies. The service supports agent identity or OAuth authentication and optional audit logs. Google says the server itself carries no additional charge, though customers pay for resources they create and applicable data transfer. Users must enable the Cloud CLI Execution API and grant the required role.
