Chukwuemeka Victor Amachukwu was sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in spearphishing attacks against U.S. tax preparation businesses, authorities announced Monday. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit computer intrusions and wire fraud after his extradition from France in August 2025. The attackers stole tax and personal information belonging to at least 800 customers from businesses in New York, Texas and other states between 2019 and 2021. They used stolen information to file fraudulent tax and loan applications. The court also imposed one year of supervised release, ordered $3.6 million in restitution and required forfeiture of nearly $11 million.
