ElevenLabs Launches ElevenMusic App for AI-Powered Song Creation and Remixing
Image: Primary ElevenLabs has released ElevenMusic, a new mobile application that allows users to create and remix songs using text prompts, TechCrunch reported, marking the company's expansion beyond its established voice synthesis and audio AI products into the music generation market.
The app lets users describe the kind of song they want, including genre, mood, tempo, and lyrical themes, and generates complete tracks from the prompt. A remixing feature allows users to take an existing song and modify it by describing changes they want, such as shifting the genre, altering the instrumentation, or changing the vocal style.
ElevenLabs built its reputation and valuation on high-quality voice cloning and text-to-speech technology, reaching a $3.3 billion valuation in a 2024 funding round. The company has been gradually broadening its audio AI capabilities, adding sound effects generation and other audio features alongside its core voice product. ElevenMusic represents the most significant expansion yet, entering a market where Suno, Udio, and other AI music startups have been gaining traction.
The music generation market has attracted significant regulatory attention. Several major record labels have filed lawsuits against AI music generators alleging copyright infringement through training on commercially released music without licensing. ElevenLabs has not publicly detailed the training data composition of ElevenMusic or its approach to rights clearance.
The launch signals that ElevenLabs views itself as a horizontal audio AI platform rather than a specialist voice company, a positioning that broadens its total addressable market but also increases competitive surface area against both established music platforms and other AI audio startups.
