Anthropic Forms AnthroPAC, a Bipartisan Employee-Funded Political Action Committee

Anthropic has formed a new political action committee called AnthroPAC, according to a federal filing reported by The Hill. The PAC will be funded exclusively and voluntarily by Anthropic employees and is designed to be bipartisan in its activity. The formation of a corporate PAC marks a new phase in Anthropic's engagement with US politics. The company, which has positioned itself as a safety-focused AI lab, has previously engaged with Washington through policy briefings, Congressional testimony, and participation in executive branch AI initiatives. A PAC formalizes that engagement by creating a vehicle for employee political contributions that the company can direct. AnthroPAC's bipartisan framing reflects the reality that AI policy touches both parties and that Anthropic needs relationships across the aisle. Republicans control the legislative agenda in the current Congress, while Democrats have been the more active advocates for AI consumer protection and safety regulations -- both areas where Anthropic has significant interests. The move follows broader trend of AI companies deepening their Washington presence. OpenAI has expanded its government affairs team significantly, Google has long operated one of the largest corporate lobbying operations in Washington, and Meta has invested heavily in policy engagement. For Anthropic, a company that has emphasized its public benefit mission, the PAC formation signals a pragmatic recognition that AI policy will be made in Washington and that the company needs a formal mechanism to participate. The Hill reported the PAC formation based on a Federal Election Commission filing. AnthroPAC's initial funding and spending plans were not disclosed.
