# GlobalFoundries plans two New York chip plants with Japanese backing

GlobalFoundries plans to build two chip plants in Malta, New York, with backing of up to $21 billion from Japan's government, Bloomberg reported. The US will take a 4% stake in GlobalFoundries. The planned facilities will produce "essential chips."
