EU plans November gatekeeper designations for AWS and Azure

EU plans November gatekeeper designations for AWS and Azure Image: Primary
The European Commission plans to designate Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure as Digital Markets Act gatekeepers in November, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The decision remains a draft, its timing could slip, and the Commission has not publicly set a date. Designation would give the companies six months to comply with rules against favoring their own products and requiring interoperability and customer data transfers. The Commission's preliminary assessment cited costly switching and the services' ability to retain new AI computing demand within their ecosystems. AWS argues that additional rules could deter European investment.
