The United States has ordered federal civilian agencies to stop buying DeepSeek products and services and remove them from government IT systems, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The restrictions also cover third-party products and services built using DeepSeek technology, although agencies may request exceptions.

DHS cited national security concerns, warning that sensitive government user information could be accessible to Chinese authorities under Chinese law. The order extends restrictions beyond a December 2025 law targeting intelligence agencies' national security systems.

China opposed the action, accusing Washington of politicizing technology and trade issues.
