# Shopify opens merchant checkout to browser-based AI agents

Shopify says browser-based AI agents can now complete purchases on eligible merchants' sites with a buyer's authorization. Its earlier WebMCP support let agents search storefronts and add products to carts; the new checkout support lets them inspect an order, change details such as an address or delivery option, and submit the transaction, including through Shop Pay.

Shopify is rolling the feature out to all eligible merchants. The three checkout tools give agents structured access to checkout information without relying on screenshots or scraping webpages. The browser-based route is separate from Shopify's existing server-to-server agent connection, and an agent still needs the buyer's authorization to place an order.
