Pittsburgh International Airport will introduce four Skild AI robots in the next month for a six-month trial, airport technology chief Deepak Nayyar said. The robots will monitor air quality, identify full trash cans and detect liquid spills.

A robot demonstrated on Tuesday scanned an overflowing trash can and generated a report, although it took unexpected detours through the crowd. The machines use wheels on their legs to improve energy efficiency and limit floor damage. If the trial succeeds, the airport will consider food delivery and security duties. Nayyar said the systems would assist employees rather than replace jobs.
