PlanetScale said it sustained 118,538,803 queries per second for 16 minutes across 512 shards holding 1.22 PiB of data on Neki, the database it released in platform preview the previous day.

The benchmark used a single-shard point select fetching one row per query by primary key, with no writes, joins, or cross-shard queries. Each shard ran one Postgres primary on an r8g.16xlarge instance, with 480 Neki routers on separate 8xlarge instances. PlanetScale reported p99 latency of 6.06ms at the router and 13.95ms at the client, 67 errors per second, and 15.8M read IOPS.

The company said the shards were primary-only with no replicas and no failover during the measured window.
