Taiwan lawmakers propose wider chip export restrictions on China

Taiwan lawmakers propose wider chip export restrictions on China Image: Primary
Taiwan lawmakers have proposed expanding export restrictions on mainland China to cover certain integrated circuits and key semiconductor materials and parts, Chosunbiz reported. The Trade Act amendment would require government approval for covered exports, including products shipped or resold through third countries. Violations could carry up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to 10 million Taiwan dollars, with criminal proceeds subject to confiscation. The proposal follows an August indictment of eight people allegedly involved in exporting 74 servers equipped with Nvidia AI semiconductors to China. Existing China-specific rules focus on 12 categories of wafer manufacturing equipment.
