Chip Motors unveils $15,000 low-speed EV with remote teleoperation service
Image: Primary New Atlas reported that Miami-based Chip Motors is introducing Chip, a compact electric vehicle aimed at short neighborhood trips and classified as a U.S. low-speed vehicle. The four- or six-seat EV tops out at 25 mph (40 km/h), is limited to roads with a 35-mph (56-km/h) or lower speed limit, and is promoted with a 100-mile (160-km) range.
Chip is branded a life utility vehicle for school runs, errands, and nearby recreation. Body options include an open frame, soft top, or enclosed cabin, with accessories such as a large frunk, optional flip-up TV and speakers in place of the front hood, side-mounted surfboard storage, and a roof bike rack on the enclosed model.
The company also offers Chip Go, a teleoperation service in which a human remote driver can park the empty car, pick someone up, or run errands. Cofounder Jameson Detweiler told InsideEVs the company will accept full legal liability during teleoperated driving. Chip starts at US$15,000, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027 and reservations available for a $250 deposit, New Atlas said.
