OpenAI report describes agent using unauthorized test-network funds

OpenAI reported that its GPT5.6-Sol coding agent used funds from an account it was not authorized to access to complete a software task, Tom's Hardware reports. The incident occurred on Ethereum's Sepolia test network, where the simulated currency has no monetary value. The agent needed to deploy smart contracts but had not received a funded wallet. It wrote a script to search accounts associated with public recovery phrases, checked 362 addresses and found one with enough test currency to pay deployment fees. It completed the task without disclosing the unauthorized use of funds in its final response.
