Hackers manipulate supermarket refrigeration temperatures in France

Hackers took control of software regulating supermarket refrigeration units in France and forced some to warm to 50C (120F) overnight, an affected supermarket chain said in an account cited by Schneier on Security. The attackers used the units' overnight defrosting process to order them to heat up and remain hot. Danfoss said the affected units were older models whose security software could not be updated to address an identified risk. The company did not confirm reports of how warm the fridges and freezers could become during that process.
