The AWS Strands Agents team released Strands harness, a general-purpose software package for running AI agents locally or deploying them to cloud providers. It provides Python and TypeScript packages under an Apache 2.0 license, with tools, memory and recovery behavior assembled into working defaults.

The team reported 28% lower average cost than other harnesses across six benchmarks at near-equal accuracy. Its approach truncates large tool results, summarizes context when usage passes 85%, and recovers when the context window overflows. Those savings are based on the team's tests; the same comparison found DeepSeek Harness was about 14% cheaper than Strands harness, though it scored lower.
