ASOS app users across the UK received push notifications carrying an apparent extortion demand, the BBC reported. Dozens of recipients contacted the broadcaster about messages claiming that hackers had compromised a Snowflake instance and threatening to leak it unless ASOS engaged with them.

The notifications addressed the company's data protection officer and IT team and linked to a Telegram channel calling itself Xuanye Group. ASOS did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Security researcher Dan Bird said sending the notifications would require access to a notification system separate from Snowflake. Whether ASOS uses Snowflake, and what data might be affected, remained unknown.
