US Army selects five winners for humanoid robot evaluation

US Army selects five winners for humanoid robot evaluation Image: Primary
The U.S. Army selected five winners from 103 proposals in its xTechHumanoid competition to advance evaluation of humanoid robot technology. The selections cover complete robot platforms, power systems, tactile sensing and autonomy software within the Army's FUZE xTech initiative. One selected platform, Alex from the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, combines AI with human operator control and uses 29 joints. The Army describes it as having impact-resilient actuators and ballistic protection. Its competition identifies reconnaissance, security, obstacle clearing and hazardous-material operations as potential missions. The selections advance technology evaluation rather than operational deployment.
