Intel has agreed to participate in Elon Musk's Terafab project, a semiconductor manufacturing initiative that includes Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI as partners. The collaboration was announced by Bloomberg on Tuesday.

The Terafab project appears focused on securing advanced chip manufacturing capacity for Musk's various companies as demand for AI accelerators and specialized processors continues to outstrip supply. Intel's foundry business will reportedly provide manufacturing services for the initiative.

The partnership represents a significant customer win for Intel's foundry division, which has been struggling to compete with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for advanced chip orders. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has made the foundry business central to the company's turnaround strategy.

Musk's companies have become among the largest consumers of AI training hardware globally. xAI has built substantial GPU clusters for training its Grok models, while Tesla requires specialized chips for its Full Self-Driving and Optimus robotics programs.

The deal highlights the growing trend of major technology companies establishing direct relationships with semiconductor manufacturers to secure capacity. Other chipmakers including Broadcom and Google have also expanded partnerships with AI companies to power their operations.
