Fields Medals 2026

The International Mathematical Union announced the 2026 Fields Medal recipients at the opening ceremony of the International Congress of Mathematicians in Philadelphia on July 23. The winners are Yu Deng of the University of Chicago, John Pardon of Stony Brook University, Jacob Tsimerman of the University of Toronto, and Hong Wang of New York University and France's Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques. Deng was honored for work in partial differential equations including a major advance in deriving the Boltzmann equation. Pardon received the award for contributions to symplectic geometry and topology including proof of the MNOP conjecture. Tsimerman was recognized for extending techniques into number theory and algebraic geometry with connections to the Hodge Conjecture. Wang earned the medal for solving the three-dimensional Kakeya problem. Each winner receives 15,000 Canadian dollars and a gold medal featuring Archimedes. The Fields Medal is awarded every four years to mathematicians under 40. The IMU also announced the Abacus Medal for Shayan Oveis Gharan, the Chern Medal for Graeme Segal, the Carl Friedrich Gauss Prize for Yurii Nesterov, and the Leelavati Prize for Hannah Fry.
