Cyberattacks disrupt supermarket refrigeration and retail systems in Europe

Supermarket fridge Image: Primary
A cyberattack has disrupted refrigeration controls at French supermarkets, with attackers reportedly forcing continuous defrosting at 50 degrees Celsius, Tom's Hardware reports, citing La Dépêche. The affected Danfoss controls are used by Intermarché, Leclerc and Coopérative U. Coopérative U president Dominique Schelcher confirmed that several stores' refrigeration facilities were affected and said teams were working to resolve the incident. Separately, a cybersecurity incident disrupted Dutch retailers Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall, affecting websites, deliveries and electronic shelf labels used for pricing. Albert Heijn said it temporarily shut down systems to protect its IT environment. Whether the French and Dutch incidents are connected remains unclear.
