Cloudflare said it reclaimed roughly 100TB of RAM across its global fleet by changing the in-memory layout of DNS cache entries for its 1.1.1.1 resolver. The company said entries fell from 953 bytes to 420 bytes, while its benchmarks showed insert throughput up 43% and lookup latency down 19%. The rollout ran from mid-May to early July. Cloudflare said it will use the reclaimed memory for larger DNS caches rather than reduce server memory configurations.
