# AWS adds Iceberg V3 maintenance and discovery to Glue Data Catalog

AWS announced support for Apache Iceberg Version 3 table optimization, statistics and discovery in Glue Data Catalog. Users can now automate table maintenance, register tables stored in Amazon S3 and make them queryable by compatible analytics engines.

The optimization tools compact tables and remove expired snapshots and orphan files, while statistics help engines plan queries. They support V3 data types including geospatial data and nanosecond-precision timestamps. Availability extends to AWS Regions where the corresponding Glue optimization, statistics and crawler services already operate.
