# Australia adds moving ice sheets to its climate-modeling tools

Australia's ACCESS-NRI has released software and shared data that let climate researchers model how ice sheets change and interact with oceans and the atmosphere. Existing ACCESS simulations used static approximations of ice sheets.

The new tools run on the Gadi supercomputer and give researchers a common version of the Ice Sheet and Sea-level System Model. They can simulate how melting ice changes ocean salinity and circulation, and how ocean and atmospheric changes affect the ice in return.

The release is a first step toward integrating a dynamic ice-sheet model into Australia's climate suite. Work on a whole-Antarctic configuration and improved regional sea-level projections continues.
