# UIC discloses ransomware disruption and data theft at College of Medicine

The University of Illinois Chicago said a ransomware attack temporarily disrupted some College of Medicine systems and stole data from the college's servers. Those systems have been restored, while investigators are reviewing the stolen data to determine whether personal, research or academic information was compromised.

The university brought in cybersecurity experts, reported the incident to law enforcement and added security controls. It plans to notify affected individuals after the review. UIC said its main network was unaffected and patient care at UI Health continued without impact.
