# September Windows 11 updates disrupt some Always On VPN connections

Microsoft has alerted administrators that some users may be unable to connect to corporate networks through Always On VPN after installing September 2026 Windows 11 security updates, BleepingComputer reported. The problem can occur when a VPN profile automatically switches connection protocols after an initial attempt fails. Affected connections may remain stuck while connecting or show a port-in-use error.

Microsoft's temporary workaround is to configure the profile to use either SSTP or IKEv2 alone. It is still working on a permanent fix.
