# AWS lets WorkSpaces managed instances change storage without rebuilding

AWS added ModifyVolume API support to Amazon WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances, allowing customers to change storage capacity and performance without detaching a volume or restarting the instance. Previously, those changes required rebuilding the deployed instance.

The API can increase volume size up to 16,384 GiB, switch supported Amazon EBS volume types, and adjust supported performance settings. It is available in all AWS Regions offering WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances. Customers can call it directly; access through a WorkSpaces Core partner solution depends on that solution making support available.
