Louisiana State University researchers reported a room-temperature optical platform that uses bright classical light and photon-number-resolving measurements to access multiphoton quantum behavior for information processing.

The team said the reservoir tolerates substantial noise and loss, accesses systems with up to 40 photons and supplies 861 measurable processing components. In demonstrations, it simulated quantum dynamics and learned six mathematical functions without physically reconfiguring the reservoir. The reported result is a laboratory demonstration; further scaling depends partly on faster, more capable photon-number-resolving detectors.
