# AWS Network Firewall adds wildcard rules for container workloads

_Published Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 8:10 PM EDT · Security · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says Network Firewall now lets customers use wildcard patterns to apply a single inspection filter to multiple container workloads in Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service and Amazon Elastic Container Service. Previously, customers needed individual container associations for each variant.

A pattern such as app=payments-* can cover payments-api, payments-worker and payments-cron, allowing the filter to cover new matching variants as they are deployed. The feature is available in all AWS Regions that support container attribute-based inspection.
