# GitLab opens free beta of organization-wide artifact registry

GitLab made Artifact Central available in a free beta for GitLab.com customers, bringing software packages and container images into an organization-level registry. Teams can set storage quotas, retention rules, and repository access policies centrally rather than configuring each project separately.

The company says artifacts published through its build pipelines automatically carry records of their pipeline, branch, commit, and publisher. Virtual repositories provide one address for internal artifacts and packages from external registries. The beta supports Maven, npm, Docker, and OCI. Self-Managed availability is planned for later this month; pricing will be set ahead of general availability.
