# Databricks launches ai_decide beta for structured AI decisions

Databricks launched ai_decide in beta Wednesday, adding a function that turns text into probabilities, named choices or ordered scores rather than generated prose. Users can call it through SQL for decisions across governed data or through a REST API for real-time applications and agents.

Powered by a decision model, the function can classify documents, route prompts to models or score answers against policies. Databricks says it evaluates questions in a fraction of a second and has lower latency and cost than language models on similar tasks. It is directly compatible with the TypeSafe AI API.
