The company has split his former responsibilities, while other people lead revived initiatives to lease entire data-center facilities, according to reporting cited by the source. Malone joined in March 2025 after OpenAI announced Stargate, its program with Oracle and SoftBank to build computing capacity. OpenAI has not disclosed why he left or publicly named the chief technology officer for computing capacity.
