Researchers presenting CRE-Router report that their model-serving method achieves accuracy comparable to the stronger model in a pool at a lower cost per token. They evaluated pools of two to nine models on A100 GPUs using TeleMath, TeleQnA and AIME.

The method groups queries and routes them before generation under a latency budget. A quality estimator then sends rejected answers to the stronger model, catching errors the initial routing misses. The study also finds that hardware changes alter the best routing choices, limiting how directly a configuration transfers between deployments.
