# AWS extends locked backup vaults to FSx for NetApp ONTAP

AWS says customers can now store Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP volume backups in its logically air-gapped vaults. The vaults keep backups immutable and locked by default, giving organizations another recovery option if their file storage or an AWS account is compromised.

Customers can place the backups in the same account or across accounts and Regions, then share a vault for recovery or restore testing. AWS says direct restoration from a shared vault can avoid copying backups first. The feature is available only in Regions where both the vault service and FSx for NetApp ONTAP are offered.
