Apple has been testing memory chips from China's CXMT for product lines including iPhones and MacBooks to ease an AI-driven component shortage, the Wall Street Journal reported, according to Reuters.

The Journal said Apple held early talks with CXMT, described as China's largest chipmaker by market value, about using the parts in some devices sold in China. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report, and Apple and CXMT did not respond to its requests for comment.

Reuters earlier reported that CXMT was considering a second memory-chip plant in Beijing. The Journal also said laptop makers HP and Acer have begun using CXMT memory in devices sold outside the United States.
